About Max
Max Crus has been writing about wine for 25 years and drinking it for longer than he cares to remember. His weekly wine reviews are juxtaposed with what’s got on his goat that week but somehow he manages to tie it all together in entertaining, thought-provoking fashion.
Politics, religion, annoying habits, social media, world peace, unruly pets or family members — nothing is off limits if you can wash it down with a nice red or white as far as Max is concerned.
Max’s column has been published uninterrupted since 1996 in a range of titles across Australia and South East Asia, making it one of Australia’s longest running and most widely published wine columns.
Max’s light-hearted,chatty and irreverent observations and reviews have over the years appeared in more than 20 Australian daily publications from the Geelong Advertiser to The NTNews in Darwin. The column is now published in The Northern Rivers Times, covering the northern region of NSW from Grafton to Byron Bay and the Tweed but is also available via subscription (for FREE!) through this website… click here to subscribe.
Please enjoy a few of Max’s favourite recent columns on this site and for wineries, winemakers and wine marketers if you’d like Max to road test any of your wines (or spirits or beers, bit of cheese and some nibbles too perhaps?) or if you have some interesting industry information that you’d like to get out there, please feel free to get in touch.
(Max Crus is the nom de plume of wine-lover and commercial photographer Simon Hughes, who, unsurprisingly, specialises in images for the wine industry).
